Phasers, which stands for Physics and Astronomy Students’ Events and Recreation Society, is the representative course union of Physics and Astronomy students at the University of Victoria. As a registered course union with the University of Victoria Students’ Society, we are charged with ensuring that Physics and Astronomy students are represented and have a place to connect with one another. Our name is derived from the classic Star Trek “Phaser” technology, or the homophonic “phasor” (Phase Vector).
As a part of our duties as a course union, we host events such as the monthly seminar series “Night with a Professor”, get-to-know-you holiday events, outings to scientific research facilities (recently the Dominion Astrophysical Observatory and the TRIUMF particle accelerator), and much more. If you’re a part of any physics or astronomy course or enrolled in a departmental degree program, you’re a part of Phasers!
